Ringing Sensation In Ear during Coronavirus Pandemic

It has been reported that tinnitus incidence has increased during Coronovirus pandemic ( read during lockdown or covid infections). This is true as we see tinnitus or ringing sounds in ear are felt more during silence. With more machine silent during Covid, more people are coming with these complaints. Most of the cases have some hearing loss at some of the frequencies and an audiometry test is must for work up of cases. High frequency hearing loss is often seen because of noise pollution.

Water sounds in my ear

Water sound could be because of some fluid in outer or middle ear or because of a process known as Tinnitus happening due to inner ear perception of unknown sounds.

Let's put this way. If your outer ear has some fluid entered during swimming or bath or else because of discharge coming from middle ear from ear drum perforation, All this will give water sounds in ear.

Tinnitus happens usually when you have some hearing loss and in absence of external masking sounds, Cochlea picks up sounds of its own outer hair cells as some whistling or bird chirping or machine sounds especially in a quiet environment.

Anomalous vascular loops in close relations to vestibular cochlear nerve complex as possible cause of tinnitus

Anomalous vascular loops are seen in close relation to vestibulo-cochlear nerve complex on either side at the exit zone (CISS seq uence). Vestibulo-cochlear nerves on either side are normal in course and caliber.

Inner ear anatomy is well defined with normal apical, middle and basal turns on both sides.

All three semicircular canals are normally visualized.
The saccule and vestibule are normally visualized.

Bilateral trigeminal nerves are normal in course and calibre with a normal course at the origin and in the region of the Meckel's ca ve on either side.

Bilateral mastoid air sinuses are normal.

IMPRESSION MR FINDINGS ARE SUGGESTIVE OF ANOMALOUS VASCULAR
LOOP AT THE EXIT ZONE OF VESTIBULO-COCHLEAR NERVE COMPLEX ON EITHER SIDE.

RE: Discharge from ears,Tinnitus,hearing Impairment

Dear Isha,

Diabetes is a major factor which may prolong the severity and duration of discharging ears and hence further deteriorating the hearing.

Tinnitus can be treated if we can restore the hearing back. I am not saying that It can be cured in all cases but if I can address the cause of hearing loss or amplify his hearing by proper hearing aid and using tinnitus maskers, Tinnitus can be helped.

If you do not want any surgery, then hearing aid is the best option to treat hearing handicapped.

Dear Dr. Jain

My father is 55 years old,his ears have been discharging since his birth. He has undergone a surgery 15 years back for left eardrum which was not successful.Past 8 years back he has become diabetic, blood sugar level ranges b/w 150-250(after meals).Later in year 2007 he was diagnosed with a disease named tinnitus, since then his condition has become worse then before.Though he has been advised to use ear plugs and hearing aid,but he doesn't feel comfortable enough using hearing aid throughout a day. After reading his past history

Can you please answer my following questions:
*Is diabetes a major factor in making his condition worse?
*Can tinnitus be cured? If non then how can it be treated?
*Without undergoing any surgery can his hearing impairment be treated.
*Your suggestions Looking towards for your reply.
